View from Zach's place
Or palace. We, as teachers at MKS, get 220 dinars a month as housing. Which is pretty ample, considering a good portion of the island lives on less than that TOTAL a month. However, the US military here gets 753 dinars a month for housing. That's $1995 a month for a place. Holy shit. And that is the bottom line for the military guys. It only goes up from there as your rank increases. It's funny because the first question we get when we are looking for places for fellow teachers is "are you military?" When we answer no, the price goes down. When we say we are teachers, the price for the flat goes down even more. I love it. 98% of the Americans on this island are military (and they are not well liked, may I add.)
And the best difference between us and them? We get to keep the difference in the housing. I pocket 290 dollars a month in excess housing allowance which pays for my place in Columbus. The Navy guys use it or lose it in terms of housing allowance.
That shot down to the cars below would be a good shot of how small my car is. Mine is the one to the far left, next to Doug's Mini Cooper in the middle.
