My first post without a picture in a long time
I've given up on waiting for pictures to load, this is the 4th night in a row that I've waited for 5 minutes at a time for a picture to upload to blogger for it only to say the server is unavailable. So I've decided to give you all an update on where I'm at out here.
1. There are only 10 weeks of school left. Hallefuckinleuah. Don't get me wrong, I love the kids, I love teaching, but the school year needs to end. It's been getting hot, the kids are getting anxious, and it just needs to stop. Luckily the last 2+ weeks are blown off for testing and whatnot, so in all reality I need to teach for about 8 more weeks. That should be easy enough--then I'm home bound. Can't wait, really. I miss everyone--my family, friends, good food (White Castle in particular--I've gone through some serious Crave withdrawals).
2. Parent teacher conferences were last Thursday. Holy shit. Although I must say they weren't nearly as bad as they were the first time around. I was not looking forward to these conferences--in fact, looking at the job in whole, probably the one thing I dislike most about teaching are the parents. I've never taught in the states, but I imagine that it isn't nearly as bad to deal with parents there as it is here. Most, if not all, of these parents are ESL (English as a second language). On top of the language barrier, you have cultural barriers as well that make the whole thing fairly uncomfortable. For example, the cultural norm here is for women NOT to talk to men unless they are family members. So many of the mothers I talked to (some of whom were even ninjas) kept the conversation short and to the point. We talked about their kid's academics and that was all--most conversations lasting under 90 seconds. Some of the more "open" mothers would bullshit for a bit, but that was rare. Hell, I can't even extend my arm to shake the hand of a woman in this culture. I learned that during the last PT conference, when a mom said "I don't shake the hand of a man." Whoops. They should clue a person in on cultural do and don't shit like this when you get a job out here instead of letting people like me fend for myself. Anyway, back to Thursday. This time around it went much more smoothly than last time. I only had 75 parents (as opposed to 96 last time), and most were just looking to thank me for teaching their child. I had no one bitch me out, no one tell me that they "were paying for A's" so their kid should have gotten all A's (like what happened to another teacher.) I'm just glad there are no more of those fucking things until next year.
I've got more to talk about but I'll save it until next time when my pictures won't load and I have nothing else to do:)

White Castle misses you, too.
Rock On Carl will probably try to blow you when you go back in.
Rock On Carl is still alive?
Rock on.
Rock On Carl has very, very bad emphysema and a half dozen other potentially fatal health problems now.
However, he hasn't quit smoking.
Rock On Carl ain't no quitter.
ROCK IT! AND ROCK IT HARD!
yeah bring your fat ass home, let me know when too, so I can get my fat ass home too, and we can be fat and drunk together!!!
My fat ass will be landing on American soil the tail end of June. I will not leave to go to Bahrain until I spend at least one piss-ass-wasted night with you.
Get ready, motherfucker...
