National Day celebration

One of the Arabic teachers arraigned a national day celebration on the last day of school that was put on in the unfinished gym upstairs. They used a weird florescent lighting system, which fucks up my camera and produces shitty photos. I apologize for that.

Technically Bahrain's National Day was on the 16th, which for the record was one of the rainiest days this country has had so all the festivities on the island were canceled. Which was too bad cause I was looking forward to the fireworks. Oh well. This country is relatively new, in terms of its age as a sovereign nation. The British finally relinquished control of this island in 1971, which makes Bahrain technically only 9 years older then me. Technically, though, populations on this island date back well over 5000 years making it one of the oldest inhabited places on earth and to some the location of the Garden of Eden. I'll believe that when "me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert."

Anyway, back to the photos. The first shows my homeroom class sitting in what was supposed to be a straight line. Oh well. It was the last day of school.

The second is one of my favorite kids--Aboody. He's the one in the fancy thobe. He's in 5th grade and his mom is head of the KG school. It was very amusing to see my kids all dressed up in mandresses:)

The third is of Janet, the principal. She's up on the stage attempting to control a show that was done in all Arabic. She, nor I, hell for that matter half of the teachers in the school had NO idea what the kids were saying. Oh well. The kid down in front with the black thobe is Isa, another of my favorite kids.
