School carnival

So we had the school carnival on Friday. That was interesting, to say the least. This picture is taken from where I was camped out for the day, at a table just outside the main entrance of the high school selling tickets for the car show. See that kid in the mandress? He's obviously too old to be one of mine but I did see a few of my students wearing thobes--and let me tell you, that's weird. I'm used to seeing them in their school outfits, and to see good 'ol Ali wearing a mandress is a strange thing...

Anyway, the carnival had all kinds of shit, from face painting, food, games, and prizes to a DJ who spun nothing but American hip hop and rap. That's slightly uncomfortable as well, I must say. Nothing quite like being in an extremely conservative society where it is frowned upon for women to show skin to be listening to Lil' John talk about bitches and sluts in front of said conservative people. Oxymoron, anyone?

All in all though it was pretty fun--until the car show. We'll get to that story in a bit.
