The most colorful buildings in Bahrain
So Rachel and I got adventurous the other day and decided to find the Bahrain fort (on Frank's advice.) Bahrain has 6 forts, most of which date back thousands of years. This particular one is on of the oldest on the island, dating back perhaps 4,000 years. It was built, rebuilt, and rebuilt again. The Dilmuns built one, the Tylos rebuilt it, the Portuguese rebuilt that one, and the Arabs reconstructed the Portuguese fort. What we saw was mostly a reconstruction surrounded by ruins, but cool as hell nonetheless. In case you weren't aware, Bahrain is, according to some Biblical scholars, home of the Garden of Eden. This country's history goes back to the beginning of man.
Anyway, it's cool as hell to see something so old (or a recreation of something so old). As you approached the fort (which was located near the water for defense and trading purposes) you found yourself in an old ass shi'a village (note: black flags) that is probably the most colorful place in Bahrain. All of the buildings were painted in bright colors, obviously a tourist trap but cool anyway. I've included a picture of the Mosque and one of the villas all painted up as well as a pic of the fort from a distance and the plaque from the entrance to the fort.
